The Year of 2004

Fall 2004 (updated 11/27/04) - Amalia and Max made it back to the Sauvie Island Pumpkin Patch in October and again had fun. We hoped to have some Halloween pictures up here but our shots didn't come out very well. If we get some from the neighbors we'll post them. Grandma and Grandpa Hercey took possession of their new house down in Florida early in November. Dad actually looks happy! We'll be down there to visit them before we know it. Amalia made short work of the puzzle I brought her back from Pinehurst. The downstairs bath remodel was about half way functional for Thanksgiving.

October 2004 (updated 10/13/04) - We've not taken as many pictures over the last month plus, but here are a few. Amalia has begun writing her name (the only one in her class!). We also took a nice trip to the Oregon Gardens. Her art skills are impressive and the school she goes to really encourages that well. Finally, the ugly non-native ivy and morning glory that dominated our front hillside is finally gone and in it's place are a bunch of plants and trees that better represent the Northwest.

Summer 2004 (updated 8/27/04) - As always, summer is flying through and time to update this web site has been scarce. We've been having a great time, bopping back to Illinois to see Uncle Randy and the grandparents Hercey, getting to the coast to beat the heat, and getting up to see the grandparents Carkeek. In other news, The Lonesomes latest CD advance copies are available and a full cd release and web site update is imminent. Some shots from a Corillian barbecue we played are found below.

June 2004 - Baseball is in full swing and Amalia's getting back into the mode of singing her favorite summer song. Enjoy (warning - file is 7mb so view this only over a non-dialup Internet connection). Her two and a half year birthday bash was a huge success and great weather capped off a wonderful month!

May 2004 - We got 2 trips to the coast in this month! Early in May Steve and Ann took Amalia up to Kent with them while Keri and I escaped for a belated anniversary at the Heceta Head Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast. Though we missed our girl terribly, the time together was wonderful. Later in the month we spent the weekend with Max and his parents in Newport, walking on the beach and exploring the wonders at the aquarium. We wrapped up the month enjoying a day with friends at Milo Mciver Park, where Amalia loved her time with her boyfriends and especially with her new friend Eleanor. Check out some pictures.

April 2004 brought the first early signs of summer. We got record highs before and after the Hercey grandparents and Uncle Randy came to visit. Easter saw Amalia go on an Easter egg hunt and as the month wound down Amalia had Max over for some quality pool time.
-----------------------------------------------
March 2004 was the best and worst of times. Amalia and Robyn suffered through some illnesses, but those downtimes were more than offset by the first great weather of the year, allowing us all to enjoy the warm outdoors. We refinished our deck furniture just in time to take advantage of the good weather on the deck, and our pictures for the month reflect where we spent most of our time.
-----------------------------------------------
Every year Amalia gets more and more friends with birthdays over the wintertime. Much of New Year's through mid-February was spent celebrating some of those birthdays. Amalia got a new "big girl" bed and we all snow hiked in to a cabin near Mt. Hood.
-----------------------------------------------
December was a good month indeed as Amalia got more excited by the day, but not for Christmas. She was more looking forward to her birthday when her mommy was going to make her a chocolate cake (it came out perfect). We played with Max Pendse and his folks at the Oregon Zoo Lights and also gathered at the Grimm residence on Vashon Island the week before Christmas. Christmas and Amalia's 2nd birthday were really loaded with far too many gifts, and Amalia had a hard time coming down from all the excitement. Finally, 2004 arrived and brought a bunch of new snow to our neighborhood. That made for three times Christmas week that snow fell here following two years without a single flake hitting the ground. Have a safe and Happy New Year!
