So Many Places, So Little Time! Here's my Travel Page, the part of my site devoted pictures and writings regarding some of the fun places I have experienced firsthand. The page is ordered most recent towards the top for now, so you can scroll down to get a nice look at how my life outside of Portland has been going... Thirteen months after our initial visit, the first weekend in May 2002 many in the Carkeek clan made it back up to Baby Island Bed and Breakfast on Whidbey Island for more good company and good food. (click below pictures to enlarge in a new browser) --------------------------------------------- The Carkeek-Hercey family is back from 10 days on Kauai, and here are some pictures you can enjoy. The new faces you see are our friends the Frostad family (Shon, Janet, and Maya) who are in the final stages of completing their home on 3-plus acres of paradise! Here's a nice site on Kauai, and while checking it out enjoy some great Hawaiian music...

The Frostad Vista looking North -------------------------------------------- 10/29/01 - Yesterday Keri and Robyn got back from a quick three day trip back to the Midwest. Friday was some Giordonno's deep dish pizza with the Hercey family, Saturday was the Bury wedding, and Sunday was some Bears football watching with Randy, Dan, and Poh. All that and we were back in our own beds before 10 p.m. Sunday night. -------------------------------------------- SAN JUAN WEEKEND (8/12/01): What a great weekend! Steve flew down to pick us from Pearson Friday, destination recreation. We met up with Ann, got in the car, and went down to Seattle for a trip to the Frye to check out the latest art, then ended the day at Safeco Field for our first game at the new ballpark. Saturday we waited for the fog to clear then flew up to Friday Harbor where Barbara Buck aided by "sissie" Nan treated us to two perfect days of fun. On the way home, I got some nice shots of Mt. St. Helen's -------------------------------------------- TRAVEL NEWS April 1, 2001: Keri and I had a splendid weekend at the Baby Island Beach Club Bed and Breakfast up on Whidbey Island the weekend of April 1 thanks to her Uncle Robert who worked on the construction of the place and in kind got this weekend planned for all of us. Most of her father's side of the family made it and it was an excellent get together with a diverse set of fun people. I got in a leisurely round of golf at Holmes Harbor, which is majority owned by former Seattle Supersonic and also former Illinoisian Jack Sikma. Along with seals and eagles which could be seen right outside the dining room window, a couple of humpback whales drifted by on Saturday. Fun stuff! Keri's side of the family on Whidbey Island at the Baby Island Beach Club Bed and Breakfast-------------------------------------------- Keri and I spent a fun long weekend down in Holiday, Florida January 19-23 2001 visiting my Grandma "Kiki". She was a super host and Keri got a nice big dose of family history complete with pictures from Grandma. Among other things, I got a round of golf in at Seven Springs on their Championship Course, my Grandfather's old haunts. Once when I was young there I broke one of his elderly friends big toes on this course. This time everybody came out fine, though the unseasonably cold temps (50) and high winds had me pretty beat by the end of the round.
--------------------------------------------------------------- ENGLAND THE SUMMER OF 2000 Stuart Goble, Rick Schlachter, and myself in the centuries-old tasting room at Englands oldest brewery, Young's in Wadsworth just south of London, England May 2000. Check out their web site! I was there late June through mid-July 2000 on business staying at the Creechurch business apartments, and Keri and her mom were able to join me for a fun week which helped break up the routine. ----------------------------------------------------------- THE OTHER PORTLAND Actually, Portland, ME is our Portland's namesake, so maybe technically we are the "other" Portland. I got a quick trip to that city at the end of September 1999 and found it to be a very charming place. Apparently it is quite a good tourist spot, but after Labor Day it tails off a bit so you can have the place to yourself if you wait until school gets back in. Great lobster, a very pretty section downtown with lots of good nightlife, a local micro-brewery (Shipyard), and all the wonder of coastal living can be found there. It's worth the trip.
1998's Christmas was spent in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Seen above from left to right in the back row are Uncle Dennis and Aunt Kathe, my brother Randy, Keri and Myself. In the front row right to left are my mom, dad, and Grandma Kiki. For more pictures from the trip, see the 1998 Christmas Page. The Netherlands, August 1998 - 5 pictures from Groningen, the Netherlands (Holland)... June 1998 in Northern Europe Journal - Quick account of my two weeks in England and Stockholm headed into Summer 1998... I got to Boulder Colorado again in April. The weather was a bit wintery for my April tastes...
Before and after shots I took on April 15, 1998 in Boulder, CO... I made it out OK. Which one is the cowboy? (April 98) Stockholm Pictorial - Early in April I went to Stockholm, Sweden. The dramatic difference in climate that I saw from the day my plane landed until the day my plane left is very evident from my pictures. There's no place like Rome - In March I had the pleasure of finding myself in the Eternal City, or as many Italians describe their country, "The Mother Land". If you are interested in history, architecture, food, wine, or Europe in general then this jump off page is a good one for you. One trip was not enough for me to take this all in, so you can bet that I'll be going back... (Commuting) Work Pictures - Yes, even more than you wanted to see, here are six shots that I see just about every day (early 1998). Here's my picture tour of Belgium for you! - A real picture and narrative tour around the Inner Ring of Brussels, featuring a bunch of pictures from my February 1998 trip there... This one should interest the traveler in you and may make you want to go there for a visit yourself. A Very Short Look at Christmas 1997 - Just a quick page with some nice pictures from our week long trip to Mexico, as well as one final look at my wonderful Grandfather who has moved on...
